BIG SUR, Monterey County — October 26, 2026. Limekiln State Park has reopened its public day-use areas, but travelers need to check continuing service limitations following the Timber and Plaskett fires. The park’s restrictions page, checked October 25, says campsites close to the beach are closed during a geotechnical survey of Limekiln Bridge. Other parts of the park remain restricted as officials examine bridge conditions.

The notice identifies restrooms and day-use access as reopened, not a guarantee that every trail, campground or coastal access point is available. Backcountry trails east of Highway 1 remain closed because of fire-related work; entering posted restricted areas may lead to a citation. The bridge geotechnical work is tied to a separate Caltrans project that visitors can review from the park notice. Before reserving overnight accommodation, travelers should verify exactly which camping areas are accepting guests through the official state parks system.
