BIG SUR, Monterey County — October 26, 2026. Andrew Molera State Park is open with restrictions as crews continue work following the Timber Fire, according to the California State Parks status page checked October 25. The park specifically identifies the Old Coast Road and East Molera Trail as closed because of their proximity to the fire, and says all backcountry trails east of Highway 1 remain closed until further notice.

The park remains a well-known public destination near the Big Sur River mouth, but a generally open park gate is not permission to enter every trail. Visitors should follow posted boundaries and remember that park management has separate warnings concerning private El Sur Ranch lands. State Parks says campsites require reservations rather than first-come-first-served arrivals. Travelers can use ReserveCalifornia for current bookings, while Caltrans QuickMap and Ready Monterey County provide transportation and emergency information. No blanket reopening date is confirmed for restricted trails.
